Kempo Karate – TraditionalFUDOZEN SHORINJI KEMPO The traditional arts are known for personal development. The discipline of practicing for the perfect technique and the confidence gained by the physically and mental goals achieved through training are priceless. Our traditional program is a mixed of many styles. The base style and the one we promote in is Fudozen Shorinji Kempo. The styles taught in class are elements from Kempo, Shotokan, Tae Kwon Do, Aiki, Judo, Goju Ryu, Goshin Jitsu, Jujitsu, and Isshinryu. In this program you will learn forms (katas), point sparring, and self-defense and the character/leadership education system. Sensei Wright, the School Director, is in charge of student progress. Sensei has been training in the martial arts since 1983 and holds black belts in Fudozen Kempo, Goju Ryu, and GoShin Jitsu. Sensei has competed nationally in the Karate AAU circuit and placed in 1992, 1993, and 1994. In addition to holding Black Belts in the systems listed above, Sensei also holds ranks in Aiki, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Kali, Tai Boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Shotokan, Pancrase, and Isshinryu. Shihan Dan Genovese was Sensei Wright's first instructor. He is a school guidance counselor by day and directs one of the most successful karate schools in western New York by night. Shihan promoted Sensei to Sandan (third degree black belt) in Kempo. Sensei Wright has trained with Shihan Dan Genovese for over 17 years. Shihan Victor "Buddy" Amoto, holds the world record for concrete block breaking (16 blocks with one strike), and he is the school director of Amoto's Martial Arts Academy in New Jersey. Shihan promoted Sensei to Nidan in Goju Ryn. Sensei Wright trained under Shihan Amoto for over four years. Kathy Faust runs one of the most successful GoShin Jitsu Karate schools in the country and has trained over 450 students a week for more than five years. Kathy is a national competitor and has been rated in the top ten women point fighters in the country. She has had the honor of winning one of the nation's largest karate tournaments, "The Battle of Atlanta." Kathy and Shihan Les Weiner (featured in Black Belt magazine) certified Sensei Wright as a first degree black belt in GoShin Jitsu. The system taught at Wright's Carolina Karate Center is a combined art of the many different styles mentioned above. All the elements of Fudozen Kempo are incorporated in the system. Fudozen Kempo is translated as "fist way" or "way of the fist." Kempo finds its base in Osaka, Japan. Wright's Carolina Karate Center's system adds high kicking from Tae Kwon Do, joint manipulation from Aiki, throws and takedowns from Judo, combative skills from Kali, Muay Thai and Marine Corps close combat, as well as ground work (grappling) from Jiu-Jitsu and Pancrase (hybrid wrestling). Sensei Wright has had the great opportunity to train every year under the world's best instructors and martial artists. Ernie Reyes is a great mentor and motivator. Don Inosanto and Kevin Semen have been handed down the art of Jeet Kune Do directly from Bruce Lee. Jason David Frank has inspired many of the techniques and teaching techniques used in the classroom. World champions Joe Lewis, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, Kathy Long, and Mike Swain have also had the pleasure of punching, kicking, and throwing Sensei Wright in order to improve his skills.
